Dick DeVos is a reformer who for three decades now has been involved in reforms in the education sector. She has led an array of political action committees, party organizations, and campaigns. The reforming inclination runs in the family since her husband, Dick DeVos was in 2006 the Republican nominee for Michigan’s governor. The couple seeks for innovative solutions to solve social issues, just like they do in politics. Betsy is the chairperson of Windquest Group. She established the firm together with her husband in 1989. The Group is a private company that invests in clean energy, technology, and manufacturing. Dick worked as the president of the Orlando Magic NBA franchise. He also served as the president of Amway.

Dick DeVos is married to Betsy DeVos, a former Prince who served for more than three decades. The couple is blessed with seven children and six grandchildren. Dick is a qualified helicopter and jet pilot, a two-time national champion sailor, and a Northwood University graduate. Dick and his wife founded the family foundation in response to the financial blessing they have received in their lives. Dick notes that the organization is a vehicle for charitable giving. Dick is active in community activities such as West Michigan Aviation Academy, Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids Economic Club, Project Clarity, and Willow Creek Association. DeVos has also co-chaired Grand Action, an organization that has been at the forefront in revitalizing downtown Grand Rapids.

 

Dick DeVos was born in 1955. He is an author and American entrepreneur originating from Michigan. Dick was the chief executive officer of the consumer goods distribution company between 1993 and 2002. He was in the race for the governor of Michigan in 2006 though he lost to the Democratic incumbent of the time. He has been listed as the 67th richest person in the US by Forbes magazine, with a net worth of about $5.1 billion.

 

Dick is an active civic leader who has led local interests such as the Regional Air Alliance of West Michigan and Grand Action. Dick also founded the Dick and Betsy DeVos Scholarship in 2008. Its objective was to support students entering MBA, MA, and MS at the Thunderbird School of Global Management. The scholarship targeted students from developing countries. The couple also founded the Betsy and Dick DeVos Scholars that offers entrepreneurship scholarship and free enterprise to students who want to earn combined BBA and MBA or BBA at Northwood University. Dick received the Art of Giving Award in September 2010 during the annual celebration of philanthropy by the Spectrum Health Foundation.
